In Guiseppe Verdi's opera, La Traviata, Alfredo's true love, Violetta is dying as she loses her long and secret battle with Consumption. Alfredo, in denial, speaks urgently to her of their future life together.

At 11:00 p.m., Mr. and Mrs. G., none the worse for the wear, would make their grand entrance at one of my mother's holiday gatherings. Later in the evening Mrs. G. would present a heroic dance.
